Medical Air Transport on Commercial Flights

This service allows the patient, along with the required critical medical equipment and medical team, to travel on a standard commercial flight.

Utilizing this method of transport can save patients and their families thousands of dollars compared to the cost of a private air ambulance, while still ensuring the patient receives the highest level of medical care tailored to their condition.

Our expert team provides comprehensive support to the patient and their family throughout the entire process (BED TO BED SERVICE). This includes transportation from the point of origin, ground ambulance transfers, handling all logistical arrangements and documentation at airport terminals, and during the commercial medical flight itself.

How is a patient transported on a standard commercial flight?

This service, known as “commercial stretcher,” is facilitated by removing a block of seats from the aircraft and installing a stretcher in their place. Typically, 6-12 seats are replaced on aircraft such as the Boeing 777/747/787 or Airbus A320.

A privacy curtain is installed around the stretcher to ensure the patient’s confidentiality. Inside this enclosed area, the medical team and all necessary medical equipment are situated according to the specific requirements of the patient’s condition. An aviation physician determines the appropriate equipment and the necessary medical personnel to ensure the patient’s safe transfer to their destination.

This service includes securing all required administrative clearances to ensure the ground ambulance can access the aircraft without delay. Additionally, all essential medical equipment is provided, from the stretcher or wheelchair to IVs, oxygen, monitoring devices, syringes, and any other required medical supplies.

The medical team monitors the patient’s vital signs closely throughout the flight and provides any necessary interventions or treatments.
